The Long Way
Written in June 2003 by David Wholihan & Michael Giammatteo
The Long Way – is about my son’s journey on the road to recovery. David & I wrote this in a park in the San Fernando Valley and I remember it came out quickly. The lyrics were altered slightly in 2007 for this CD.
The recording was done in 2003. As usual, David laid down bass & all guitars & I did vocals & keyboard parts. During the same session as Don’t Go Away, Carl Jah (of Dread Zeppelin) laid down the lead guitar part. Then, in 2007, Matt added the drums & I re-did the vocals for this CD.
Musicians:
David: bass, guitars
Michael: vocals, keyboards
Matt: drums
Carl Jah: lead guitar
THE LONG WAY
I never said it would be easy
You understand I could be right
I may have learned that you’d return
You likely won’t but you just might
I tried to help you pick out swatches
So you can decorate your mind
You chose a shade that’s custom made
An outlook of a different kind
You took the long way, took the long way
But now you’re home
I said that there’s always tomorrow
I hope that time is on your side
I couldn’t see you’d disagree
You’re otherwise preoccupied
You took the long way, took the long way
But now you’re home
Never thought it would end, never want it again
Gone gone away, gone away
You took the long way, took the long way
But now you’re home
