Raining In My Heart / Transition
Written Sept 18th, 2005 / 2007 by Michael Giammatteo

Raining In My Heart / Transition – the first rays of “the sun” were starting to shine through. This was a turning point for us. We proceeded with cautious optimism and tireless dedication. Raining In My Heart is just a little musical idea that I had written about the constant search for whatever is “next” in Vico’s recovery. Vico proceeded in increments, but always forward. I had intended to build a song around it but hit a brick wall. When the time came to put the CD together, I started thinking about other rock concept albums & many of them have short songs that are not fully realized musically, but bring the story along. Once the idea for the concept album was put together & it’s structure mapped out, I wanted to use “the sun” as a metaphor for recovery. So, this first transition piece represents the beginning of recovery.

The recording was without any major problems. For Raining In My Heart, I laid down piano over a drum track. David came by & added bass & multiple guitars. I laid down the overlapping vocal parts. Then Matt replaced the drum track with real drums. A few keyboards & some percussion and there you go. The original track runs nearly four minutes but I cut it down for the CD. For the Transition piece, I laid down multiple keyboard parts to create the murky drone & flew in some vocals from Shadow Shines.

RAINING IN MY HEART

You are raining in my heart
You are tearing me apart
Is there someone I should know?
Is there somewhere I should go?
