Shadow Shines
Written in 2003 and 2007 by John Wholihan, David Wholihan & Michael Giammatteo

Shadow Shines – is a song of recovery. The fog is lifted and “the sun” finally shines brightly. As of this writing, my son is not yet fully recovered, but he has come so much further than we were ever told to expect that we now say that Vico “routinely does the impossible on a daily basis”. He is a smart, social, playful & beautiful boy who is conversational & has a wicked sense of humor. He gets better every month & I have no doubt that he will continue to improve & become more independent over time. The melody of this song was written by David & I, to a set of lyrics written by his brother John in 2003. I altered the lyrics for this CD as I felt this song would be the perfect, joyous “finale” to our story. (John’s original lyrics were great as they were, so I thank him for allowing me to alter them for this CD).

The recording was fairly complex and (like Dreaming) was altered bit by bit over four years as David & I got new ideas. Late in the process, Matt added drums & Andy lead guitar. It is probably my favorite song on disc. And there is a little “bonus” at the end.

Musicians:
David: bass, guitars
Michael: vocals, keyboards, percussion
Matt: drums
Andy: lead guitar

SHADOW SHINES

The sun shines upon me
The sun shines upon you
And you’ll see, shadow shines, too

Heads across the water
Hands across the sky
Clouds obscure the corridor
Languidly drifting by

Senses screaming unaware
Noting the lack of sound
Surfacing into the light
Silently Look around

The sun shines upon me
The sun shines upon you
And you’ll see, shadow shines, too

Ignoring proclamations
Of what can’t be done
Second act upon us now
Turning your back on “one”

Live and breathe, recover
Can’t remember when
Too much time was deaf and blind
Won’t go there again

The sun shines upon me
The sun shines upon you
And you’ll see, shadow shines, too
Find yourself
Love yourself
Choose yourself
Be yourself

The sun shines upon me
The sun shines upon you
And you’ll see, shadow shines, too
