Sing It
Written April 30– May 1st 1999 by David Wholihan & Michael Giammatteo

Sing It – is a song of hope. With the help of organizations like TACA (Talk About Curing Autism) we discovered that the outlook for my son was not nearly as bleak as we were led to believe. On April 30th, 1999 David & I had a recording session. We’d finished early & had a bit of time to spare, so we decided to try & write a tune. With David on bass & myself on guitar, we bashed this song out in only a few minutes. It took about as long to write as it did to play – it came out that fast. I remember that I wound up “leading” the writing during the verse & chorus (you can always tell the parts I write because they use really simple chords) & David wrote the bridge flat out. The next day I wrote the lyrics & it was done, just like that.

The recording went pretty quickly. I remember commenting to David that his bass work on the chorus reminded me of Duane Eddy. We decided to flesh out the recording for this CD as it was pretty sparse. David laid down a bunch of additional guitar parts. I re-did a few of the vocal parts. The 1999 recording was done to a drum loop (from a Led Zeppelin song) and Matt laid down real drums over the track & we removed the loop. Moira fleshed out the “na na” vocals with me. Then, as an afterthought, I had my son & daughter (Vico, 10 and Culzean, 7) sing some “na na’s” as well. That wound up being the basis for a “surprise” later on in the CD.

Musicians:
David: bass, guitars
Michael: vocals, keyboards, percussion
Matt: drums
Moira Giammatteo: harmony vocals
Vico & Culzean Giammatteo: chorus vocals

SING IT

If you’re drowning deep in your sorrow
If you’re dreading waking tomorrow
If you feel your life’s going nowhere
Baby, it’s all right, don’t you go there
Don’t let it bring you down, now
Grab your problem, turn it around
And just sing it, sing it,
Na na na na na na na, na na na na na

And if you can’t find no word to say
And if you feel that love’s gone away
And if your happiness is a memory
And if your troubles are just too many
Don’t let it bring you down, now
Grab your problem, turn it around
And just sing it, sing it,
Na na na na na na na, na na na na na

Well, maybe singing won’t solve your problems
But, baby, it’ll let us dance all over them

And so you try to stand on your feet
And you declare that you won’t be beat
So you reach out and make the call
Darling, no one answers at all
Don’t let it bring you down, now
Grab your problem, turn it around
And just sing it, sing it,
Na na na na na na na, na na na na na
